From Berlin’s first fintech to Europe’s largest retail exchange

With a smart idea, pioneering spirit, and a highly motivated team, we developed the ECN TRADEGATE^® in 2000 as one of Berlin’s first fintech companies. Initially launched as an ECN, it quickly won over investors with its fast, automated executions free of brokerage fees and other charges. Consors, Germany’s first online broker, became a strategic partner. Tradegate soon became the preferred trading venue for German retail investors. 

In 2009, the company received approval from the State of Berlin to operate a fully licensed securities exchange, marking the first establishment of a new exchange in Germany in over 150 years. That same year, Deutsche Börse AG acquired a stake in both Tradegate AG and the operating company for the newly formed Tradegate Exchange. Tradegate AG retained its key role as a market maker on the exchange and continued expanding its electronic trading platform. Our formula for success: excellent technology, fast execution, and unbeatable costs. Within just a few years, Tradegate AG transformed Tradegate Exchange into Europe’s leading exchange for retail investors.

At the beginning of 2026, Tradegate Exchange and Börse Berlin merge to form a new stock exchange: Tradegate Berlin Stock Exchange, or Tradegate BSX for short. Customers continue to enjoy all the benefits of Tradegate Exchange, such as zero order fees, a large international product universe, and award-winning execution quality. In addition, the resources of Börse Berlin are integrated into the offering, allowing all primary listings to be continued following the takeover of the regulated market segment.
